Hampshire based artist Sarah Clare Graham draws inspiration from what she sees in the world around her.
Inspired by the countryside she grew up in, Sarah’s work is focused on the land and how we use it. Through subdued tones and atmospheric scenes, she documents human utilisation of the landscape and explores its subsequent artificiality. She aims to evoke a sense of tranquility, nostalgia and melancholy, navigating the space that these share through subtle details within the tones of her paintings. She attributes emotion to characteristics of the landscape, approaching them with a desire to reflect upon and connect to the land and its history. She enjoys playing with the sense of presence within her compositions, pushing and pulling between loneliness and familiarity.
